Water Tables.
The Line That Grounds the Building.
A powerful architectural statement at the base.
The water table is one of the most powerful elements in masonry architecture — a horizontal band at the base of a building that visually grounds the structure and creates a deliberate transition from foundation to facade. It typically ties into window sills or continues as banding around the elevation.
Tulip fabricates Indiana Limestone water tables in four standard profiles plus fully custom profiles. Every piece is cut from custom shop drawings to integrate with your specific masonry coursing and sill heights.
Water Tables
The water table is a powerful building element that makes a strong architectural statement. Positioned at the base of a wall or at key horizontal transitions, water tables create seamless continuity to window sills or banding — providing a streamlined, well-proportioned look to any project. Elegant, functional, and built to endure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a water table in masonry construction?
A water table is a horizontal projecting band of stone at the base of a masonry wall. It creates a visual transition from foundation to facade, adds architectural definition to the base of the building, and sheds water away from the wall below. It typically transitions into window sills or continues as banding around the elevation.
What water table profiles does Tulip Precast offer?
Four standard profiles: Classic Water Table, Single Chamfered, Double Chamfered, and Ogee. Custom profiles are available for heritage matching and non-standard applications. The Ogee is the most decorative, suited to formal and traditional architecture; chamfered profiles create stronger directional shadow lines.
Do water tables need to align with window sills?
Not necessarily, but they often do. A water table that ties into the sill course creates a continuous horizontal datum across the elevation, which is architecturally stronger than two separate horizontal lines. Our drafting team coordinates this during shop drawing production.
Can you match a water table on a heritage building?
Yes. We replicate existing water table profiles from photographs, measurements, and original drawings where available. Heritage profile matching is one of our core capabilities.
