Heritage Restoration.
Matched Exactly.
When the replacement has to be invisible.
Heritage restoration is the most demanding work in stone fabrication. A replacement piece that is close is not acceptable — it has to match the original in colour, texture, profile, and weathering character so completely that nobody can tell which stone is new. Tulip specialises in exactly this work for heritage buildings across Ontario.
We work from whatever reference material exists: photographs, physical measurements, fragments of the original piece, or century-old architectural drawings. Our carvers reproduce ornamental detail by hand where CNC cannot capture the character. Indiana Limestone was the stone originally specified on most North American heritage buildings — which means matching it starts with using the correct material.
Heritage Restoration
Indiana limestone is a remarkable stone — ranging from warm buff to cool blue-gray, prized across generations for its workability and its unique capacity to accept and retain crisp, intricate detail. This is why it was the material of choice on so many of North America's heritage buildings, and why matching it correctly is the foundation of any restoration project. Today's carvers are a diverse group of artisans, many continuing family traditions alongside those who shaped the craft before them.
For any heritage restoration enquiry please provide: photographs of the existing stone from multiple angles and distances, physical measurements of the pieces being replaced, any original drawings or specifications that survive, and where possible a fragment or sample of the original stone. The more reference material we have, the more precisely we can match.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you match limestone on a heritage building in Ontario?
Yes. Heritage profile matching is a core capability at Tulip Precast. We replicate the colour, texture, profile, and dimensions of existing limestone so replacement pieces integrate invisibly with the original stonework. We work from photographs, physical measurements, and original architectural drawings where available.
What do you need to quote a heritage restoration project?
Photographs of the existing stone from multiple angles, physical measurements of the pieces being replaced, and any original drawings or specifications that exist. Full-size layouts or templates are extremely helpful. The more reference material provided, the more accurately we can match.
Can you carve replacement ornament for a historic building?
Yes. Our carvers produce replica architectural ornament — capitals, corbels, medallions, keystones, friezes, and figurative work — from photographs and measurements of the original. Indiana Limestone is the preferred material because it holds fine carved detail for centuries and matches the stone originally specified on most North American heritage buildings.
Do you work with heritage architects and restoration contractors?
Yes. We work directly with heritage consultants, restoration architects, and general contractors on conservation projects. We provide full shop drawings, physical samples for approval, and documentation suitable for heritage permit submissions.
