INDIANA LIMESTONE · BANDING · ONTARIO MADE
Banding & String Courses.
Proportion, Defined.
The most cost-effective way to transform a facade.
Banding — also called string coursing — is a horizontal band of stone running across a masonry elevation. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to add architectural proportion and definition to any building. A flat brick wall with two well-placed string courses reads as considered architecture rather than cladding.
Tulip fabricates Indiana Limestone banding in seven profiles designed to integrate seamlessly with standard brick coursing dimensions. Custom profiles are available for non-standard applications and heritage matching.
Banding & String Courses
Banding — also known as string coursing — is one of the most cost-effective ways to add proportion, detail, and visual definition to any masonry structure. Designed to integrate seamlessly with common brick sizes, it creates a refined transitional element that elevates the entire facade. Custom banding profiles are also available for non-standard applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is limestone banding or string coursing?
Banding, also called string coursing, is a horizontal band of stone running across a masonry facade. It adds architectural proportion and visual definition, breaking up flat expanses of brick or stone veneer. It is one of the most cost-effective limestone elements available and dramatically changes how a building reads.
What banding profiles are available?
Seven standard profiles: Classic, Bull Nose, Double Bull Nose, Single Chamfered, Double Chambered, Natural Rock Face, and Custom. Chamfered profiles create the strongest shadow lines; bull nose profiles soften the horizontal element; rock face introduces raw stone texture against smooth masonry.
Does limestone banding work with standard brick sizes?
Yes. Our banding is dimensioned to integrate with common brick coursing so it sits within the masonry course without requiring cut brick or non-standard joints. Our drafting team confirms the coursing dimensions during shop drawing production.
Can banding tie into window sills and water tables?
Yes, and it often should. Banding that aligns with the sill course or continues from a water table creates a continuous horizontal datum across the elevation, which is architecturally stronger than disconnected horizontal elements. We coordinate this during shop drawings.
